This woman wanted an improvement with her lateral thigh ("saddlebag") region. Many women, like this patient, have a genetic predisposition for increased fat deposition in this region despite proper weight, exercise and diet. Liposuction treats this area very well. The goal of lipo-contouring of this area is not to eliminate all the fat, but to contour the region to be more proportional to rest of the body while maintaining the appropriate curvature of woman's body. For more limited areas, the liposuction surgery can be performed under sedation (without the need for general anesthesia). As with all liposuction procedures, the final outcome is largely dependent on ideal skin retraction. Scars from liposuction surgery are minimal as the incisions are very small (5mm). I like to use the smallest possible cannulas to minimize the risk of skin dimpling and irregularities. This patient was very pleased with the outcome as liposuction addressed the "saddlebags" while maintaining appropriate curvature.
